Excel to Numbers
Convert Excel (XLSX) or CSV files into Apple Numbers spreadsheets.
Convert Excel or CSV files into Apple Numbers spreadsheets
Numbers opens Excel files, but only on a Mac, iPad or iPhone, and a colleague who works in Numbers on a shared iCloud folder wants a native .numbers file rather than an import. Excel to Numbers converts an XLSX workbook or a CSV file into a genuine Apple Numbers spreadsheet that opens directly in Numbers, without a Mac being involved on your side.
Upload the .xlsx or .csv file. Every worksheet becomes a Numbers sheet with one table named after it; cells keep their type, so numbers stay numbers, dates stay dates and a CSV's text is turned into numbers, dates and true/false values where it clearly is one. Formulas in the workbook that Numbers also has, such as SUM, AVERAGE, IF, ROUND and hundreds more, are written as live formulas, so the result recalculates in Numbers; a formula that Numbers does not support is written as its value, and the tool reports how many. When the first row of a sheet is all text it is marked as the header row.
Charts, images, conditional formatting and macros are not converted, and the older binary .xls format must be saved as .xlsx first. The conversion runs on our servers and the upload is deleted within 60 minutes. To go the other way use Numbers to Excel, and to check the result without a Mac open it with the iWork File Viewer.
