Turn an Apple Pages document into Markdown or plain text

Notes, drafts and articles written in Apple Pages often need to end up somewhere that does not understand .pages files: a wiki, a static website, a README, a note-taking app or an AI assistant. Pages to Markdown converts the document into clean Markdown, or into plain text when you do not want any markup at all.

Upload the .pages file and pick the output. Markdown keeps the structure you wrote: headings become # lines, lists stay lists, bold and italic are marked, tables become Markdown tables and links keep their addresses, so the text pastes straight into any Markdown editor. Plain text drops the markup and keeps only the words, paragraph by paragraph, which is the right choice for a search index, a transcript or a quick copy into a message. Files from every version of Pages are accepted, including Pages '09 and documents saved from iCloud or an iPad.

The conversion runs on our servers and the upload is deleted within 60 minutes. Images and page layout are not part of Markdown and are left out; if you need them, Pages to PDF keeps the full design and Pages to Word keeps an editable layout. Password-protected documents must be unlocked in Pages before uploading. Once you have the Markdown, the Markdown Editor lets you keep working on it in the browser, and Markdown to Word turns it back into a DOCX when a colleague asks for one.
