Upscale a small image to a larger size

An old photo, a low-resolution logo, or a thumbnail saved from a website is often too small for what you want next, whether that is printing, a banner, or a slide. Upscale Image takes a picture and enlarges it, filling in the extra pixels so the result looks like a bigger version of the same photo rather than a blocky, stretched copy.

You pick a factor of 2, 3, or 4 times the original width and height, with double size as the default. The tool works out sensible values for the new pixels between the ones you already have, smoothing edges and gradients so enlarging a photo does not just produce a soft, pixelated mess. This works well on photos, illustrations, and simple graphics, but it cannot recover detail that was never captured in the first place, so a tiny, blurry thumbnail comes out bigger and a little smoother, not sharp and crisp.

There is a practical ceiling on output size to keep the file from becoming unworkably large, so pushing a very big source through the highest factor may not be allowed.
