Compress PDF

Shrink file size by optimizing images.

Shrink a PDF that is too big to email

A brochure full of photos or a scanned packet can easily balloon past what an email attachment or upload form allows. Compress PDF brings the file size down by re-encoding the images inside a document at a lower quality, without touching the text, which stays as sharp and searchable as before.

You control how far it goes with a quality setting from 1 to 100, defaulting to 60. A lower number squeezes images harder; a higher one keeps them closer to the original. Oversized images are also scaled down for screen and print use, since a photo shot at full camera resolution rarely needs that much room. The file is processed on our servers over a secure connection and removed within the hour.

Photos and scans shrink the most; a PDF that is mostly text and vector art may barely change size at all. The result is never handed back larger than what you uploaded. If images look too soft afterward, try again with a higher number. For dropping pages instead, use Split PDF, since this tool changes size, not page count.
