Merge Markdown

Combine multiple .md files into one document, in order.

Merge several Markdown files into one document in order

Writing a book, a course, or a long report often means working in separate chapter files, and at some point you need all of them stitched into a single document. This tool takes several Markdown files and combines them into one, in the order you add them, so you stop copying and pasting sections by hand.

You select multiple .md files in the order you want them to appear, and the tool joins them into one new file. Each file's content follows the last, with a heading taken from its filename and a divider line ahead of it so you can see where one file ends and the next begins; headings, lists, tables, and links inside each file carry over as written.

Check that heading levels are consistent across your files; if one starts sections at heading level one and another starts at level two, the combined outline will look uneven. Processing happens on the site's servers over a secure connection, and every file you upload is deleted within sixty minutes. If you later need to break a merged file back apart, Split Markdown does that at each heading.

Merging files is free on a daily allowance, and a free account removes that cap, working the same way on a phone, tablet, or desktop browser.

How to use the Merge Markdown tool

  1. Add your MD, MARKDOWN files: drag & drop or click to browse; you can add several.
  2. Click “Process Merge Markdown” and download your result.
